This week was a very good one indeed! American citizens have come together and voted Barack Obama into office. We now have a better chance to regain our status in the world. I was so nervous Tuesday night, during the count, because I did not want a repeat of what our country has experienced for the last eight years. I know that any real change would not and is not going to occur for a some years to come, but at least now I know that we have a much better chance. John McCain, like most republicans, does not care about the advancement of Black people or poor people. Instead, they are more concerned about their wealth and keeping their wealth. Now do not get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with having wealth. There is something wrong when you have five houses and ten cars but there is a person without shelter, or a family that has no running water, or a single mother who has to live in a shelter, or a family that has no food, or even a family that can not afford to send their child(ren) to college. Although I am very happy and proud of our President Elect Barack Obama, I just hope that he really carries forth on his promises of change. Most of all, I hope and pray that he implements a plan that will benefit Black people and poor people. Yes, we voted for change. Yes, we have made history by electing a Black man. So now is the next step. Is this Black man going to change things for Blacks and poor people in America? Or are things going to continue to be the same for Blacks in America? I do not know but I hope he makes us proud. I'm not looking for a hand out but I'm looking for help.
